F10 m5 dct transmission loose bearing
Hello all,
I have a 2014 m5, 70k miles,Monte Carlo blue, with active autowerk downpipes and tune, b&o sound system, wrapped in ppf. I absolutely love this car. It was a dream car and IÂ’ve had her for 9 years as daily driver. My plan was to keep her forever. Over the past few months there has been a whirring sound with acceleration which gets louder at higher revs. Not present when not on gas. Otherwise the car drives amazingly as always. IÂ’ve taken it to local shop and two BMW dealerships. The consensus is loose bearing inside transmission. I tried to get two extended warranty insurance companies to pay for replacing transmission and both wanted the transmission to be torn down to fully diagnose the problem and maybe or maybe not approve it. But if they donÂ’t approve it, the transmission is torn down and canÂ’t be used. A new transmission is 14k and the best quote I got to replace it out of pocket was 17k. I strongly considered that because I love the car so much but realize that is not financially prudent. The best offer I have for it is 23k to trade it in for a certified pre owned ‘22 m5 with 10k miles. The car runs fine so my options are a) just keep it till the transmission dies, I donÂ’t know how long that will be b) Get 23k for it which is actually really good and get a newer m5. Or c) and I donÂ’t know the answer to this: the dealer told me that you canÂ’t put in a used transmission because itÂ’s like coded to the ecu or vin or something. Is this true? Would yÂ’all recommend trying a used transmission? I love the car so much and have it customized just the way I like plus the sentimental value so I really really am finding it hard to part with it 😩 I know the smartest thing to do is just trade it in and get value for it, but the newer m5Â’s just donÂ’t look as good as the f10 imo plus the sentimental value. Any thoughts suggestions advice would be greatly appreciated. Apologize if this post is not in right place or there is another thread addressing this issue. I did a search and couldnÂ’t find anything similiar. Thank you 🙏 |

It’s an extended warranty, not through BMW. They didn’t refuse. Just can’t make diagnosis without tearing apart the transmission. And they don’t cover the tear down. And can still potentially refuse after tear down, saying it’s due to wear and tear or some bs. And then I have a car with no transmission. But from their perspective I completely understand. It’s a 5-6k policy for 5 years. The transmission costs at least 17k to replace. Doesn’t make any sense for them

There are a lot of exclusions. These companies are scummy. But it’s a moot point really. I’m not tearing down the transmission and risk having a car with no transmission that i can’t drive with no resale value. None of this is relevant to my questions. I’ve cancelled both policies already. Basically need to decide on above stated options

Myself I'd ask a gearbox indie about a swap with a used DCT, the mechatronics from your worn DCT could be used in the fresher DCT to tie in with the DME's.

Man, the George Foreman grills on newer models are a show stopper for me. I love my F10s beautiful little face. Fix her as M5Rick said. If you trade that car you'll regret it forever.
