Exactly my question as well. It's not clear from the article, but based on the numbers I would guess it does include the "M Performance" models.

I believe all M Performance models are included in that figure. While BMW recognizes M Performance and “True M” as separate models, I believe they’re considered together with regards to BMW M.

Mercedes does the same thing with “AMG lite” and “AMG Pure” when referring to AMG from what I can read from releases.

Yep, this includes the M performance line as well as the limited CS models. As I understand it, Benz is doing the same thing with their AMG lite cars as well.

Agree with everyone else. M-sport vehicles in the past would never have been counted since, they are not M vehicles, so why is the new equivalent of them being counted now other than to just falsely boost sales figures ❓

I don't think so. "M" has just come to mean "increased performance over the base model." So in that light it's not a scam, it's just providing increased performance without having to buy a much more expensive, and difficult to deal with true M-Car.
