Just picked her up
Afternoon all!
I've been into M cars for a long time and currently have an E60 M5 that I've owned for the last 12 years and have an M Roadster (S54) that I bought for my wife. Past cars include E46 M3's and such but saw this come across the carsandbids forums and couldn't resist. Guess this puts my E60 M5 on the block this summer but I promised a follow up to that sale so I'm posting here. The whole sale thread was hilariously and strangely combative from the seller and the prospective buyers. It caused a lot of doubt and questions around the car - lots of red flags if this was your first M car but I decided to roll the dice on it. What appealed to me - LCI headlights and taillights, 6 Speed Manual, I pieced together some history privately through a slew of calls and research and carbon ceramic brakes. I also love that this black on red color combo matches my TRD Pro Sequoia so that's a plus for me. The car got delivered to me from Georgia in an enclosed trailer to my house in Waunakee Wisconsin - I was nervous the first time that I drove the car because under full load it went into limp mode, showed a traction fault, disabled the throttle and asked to be serviced immediately. This issue went away on restarting the engine; however, only under full load it would pop up again. To the dealers credit, he mentioned that at any point if I wanted to cancel the sale he would take the car back so this eased most of my concern. I fired up my ISTA/INPA laptop and found that the throttle actuator sensor was sending faulty readings to the engine. The sensor is inside the accelerator pedal so it's a pedal replacement. I bought a new one from BMW, I think it was less than a couple hundred bucks and installed it. Interestingly the new pedals come with a different connector so you have to unpin and repin a new connector for the pedals. This fixed the issue immediately - I texted my contact at Nexus (where I bought the car) and his first text was "send me your venmo and I'll pay for it" great gesture - I told him not to worry it's all set and let's move on with enjoying the car. Next up, I noticed quite a shake over 80mph - I took it to my friends at Middleton Motorsports and we saw immediately that wheel weights were missing so we started there. It needed a full alignment and balancing which fixed most of the shake. Some of the shake remains which is attributed to a thrust arm being worn out so I'll replace that and hopefully all is set. I love this car - it is obvious that it needs some TLC and needs someone familiar with M cars to get it back to 100% so I'm glad she's in my garage. I did some more looking into this car and found the backstory - interesting read so stay with me! The second owner of this car was the selling dealer, the original was a local doctor. They did the CCB conversion, LCI lights and the upgraded infotainment. After owning it for some time he sold it through his dealership to an older gentleman that came from the Porsche world, it was his first M car and traded in a 911 turbo for it. I'm guessing the car sat for quite some time, this owner put on minimal miles and probably saw the same faults that I did with it. He got scared off from owning an M car and worked out a deal with the same dealer to trade this for a 997 Turbo. The dealer took the car back, knowing it's history didn't extensively look through it and notice the faults and listed it for sale. This is where I took ownership of it. The dark cloud of fear, little TLC items and some parts needing replaced loomed over this car. I strongly believe that this uncertainty caused a great car to be misunderstood and "tossed around" between sales and owners. Again, I'm glad she's home here. So here she is, the link to the sale is also posted and some updated pics. After I got it running 100% I did a baseline dyno on the car, it put out a very healthy 518whp (more than I expected) on 91 ethanol free octane. I added VRSF catless downpipes and an MHD tune with 93 ethanol octane and it put down 607whp. It feels amazing now, woken up, great torque curve and very solid to drive. This car will not be tracked, driven in winter or in the rain but it's an awesome car to add kiddo car seats to, go to cars and coffee events and enjoy on long drive up north to our cabin. I'll keep the community posted on the car, very happy with this addition. Link to the sale: https://carsandbids.com/auctions/3vy...ca&ref=pr_1_17 |

Great read ! I own a 2015 F10 M5 Comp..it’s an incredible car ..so underestimated imo in the M family. Made some performance upgrades and some modifications to it ..and she’s just a pure beast. The last true rear wheel M5. A true enthusiast gem!

Congrats on the purchase and straightening the car out! I remember seeing it on C&C, nice to see it went to someone in the area (I live in Chicagoland). Hopefully I’ll make it to some BMW events in Wisconsin with my 6 speed, so maybe will see you around. Enjoy your new toy, they are amazing.
