Very possible. I have only been racing for approximately 30 years. Have not run the Pike's race though.

Short shifting is what maintains control on that surface. He knows what he is doing-obviously.

OK first things first, he is not "getting maximum power out of his car." He is maximizing the effectivness of the powerband available to him. This means managing only what he is able to put in contact with the ground without losing traction. Too much power means no traction; doesn't matter if the wheels can't spin fast enough, or are spinning too fast, no traction equals no traction. So, technically, "geting maximum power out of his car" is incorrect.

Secondly, I hate that any man can best me at manly man stuff, but I admit, first off I would shit my pants if asked to do this in this car, and also I would probably turn myself and the car into an unrecognizable, unidentifiable lump of nothing.

Absolutely correct. That is what I was referring to in my quote. By short shifting he is applying the maximum torque needed to maintain control.

Don't feel bad about this one. He is an incredible driver.
