Short shifting is what maintains control on that surface. He knows what he is doing-obviously.

OK first things first, he is not "getting maximum power out of his car." He is maximizing the effectivness of the powerband available to him. This means managing only what he is able to put in contact with the ground without losing traction. Absolutely correct. That is what I was referring to in my quote. By short shifting he is applying the maximum torque needed to maintain control.

Don't feel bad about this one. He is an incredible driver.
