DME Upgrade with JB4

Alright so I did some searching and I have seemed to run into some conflicting answers.

I have a N55 135i with the old DME. I have JB3 with the JB4 harness upgrade on the way.

Anyways today I am taking my car in for service. My question is if I plan to install the JB4 right when I get my car back should I get the DME upgrade.

It seems a couple threads say the DME really detunes the car, while others say it is actually better off with the new DME upgrade if you have JB3 or JB4.

Also if I do want to get the upgrade what needs to be said is wrong with the car in order for them to do the upgrade. I just talked to a service rep and he stated you must have a problem in order for them to update the car.

I think you mean SW (soft ware) update.

Only early N54 (twin turbo's) need to have the DME upgraded in order for BMW's own tune the PPK1 or PPK2 (performance power kit) tune to work on the car.

Btw... your car is a N55 with one single turbo. I was not aware of two DME's versions for the N55. ?

Yes, your talking about a SW update... NOT two different DME parts like the N54 had (MDS80 and MDS81).

thanks for the links.

Get the software update. The software update combined with the JB4 Stage 2 for the N55 is amazing.
