Rattling noise wastegates
So I had the rattling noise coming from the engine compartment. I haven't been in the forums for quite awhile so I had no idea that it was a common type thing and what to expect.
I took my car to the dealer and left it there for a week while they fixed that along with a couple of other things. I am 200 miles from 50k so I had them do a bit of work under warranty still. This is what I got back on my invoice: "Both turbocharger wastegates out of adjustment. Tested and confirmed rattle noise coming from turbocharger wastegate actuators. Programmed and encoded vehicle as per FSE. This failed to fix concern. Removed both turbochargers and checked wastegate adjustment and found both to be out of adjustment. adjusted both wastegates and reinstalled turbos. Tested vehicle when cold and test drove when hot and no rattle noise was present." They also recharged the A/C and replaced the evaporator because it was leaking. New washer fluid pump due to that leaking too. Not to bad as a final warranty stop. Are the wastegate actuators something I will need to continue to worry about? Or am I free to mod to my hearts content now that the warranty is up? Now I get to spend all of my free time back in here since I've been a couple years removed! I missed reading all the wonderful info in these forums. |

I would think it is still a concern for the future but at least they were adjusted under warranty. Sounds like you have a good Dealer (service). Mod up

Is that what I should be pushing for? I have about 200 miles left on the warranty. I am about to head out for a little drive to see how the car sounds and is behaving...

No way. The second you started the car you could hear the ticking noise. Windows down. I had one of my friends there when I started the car and he was like "Dude. That is not right." He had no idea but thought off the bat it might have been the injectors or something along those lines.

So the rattling is bc the turbos need replaced? My rattle has been terrible in recent weeks. I am about 1500 miles from my warranty being up, and I have TBE. It would be a pain to pay to get my stock dps put back in then to have AA dps reinstalled after.

Some people are getting them replaced it seems. I ended up getting the software update and having the turbos removed and the actuators adjusted...
I'm wondering if talking to my SA and pushing for a replacement would be necessary or not... |

How can you tell? I started hearing the rattle noise since last weekend. But still cannot figure out what it is. Any video will be great!

How many miles had you covered and were you "evolved"at the time your turbos were replaced? I presume that was the 135 as well. If so, did BMW have anything to say about it? Dan |

It was literally as I was selling the car - 60k miles. Put the car back to the standard map, took it to the dealership, no issues. I guess with a common problem like that they have no reason to say no.

Took it back to BMW today. MY SA is pretty cool. I told him about the things I had been reading and the issues and raised my concerns about the longevity of a fix as opposed to a replacement. I don't want to have to be replacing turbos in 10k miles because the adjustment wasn't the fix and I'm only 150 miles from the warranty being up.
They are going to keep it for a couple of days and see what can be done (hopefully new turbos). It's been having a long crank also that will be looked at. Not long like when I got the HPFP replaced, but longer than I am used to to the point I notice it every AM when I start the car. |

I had wastegate rattle issues a few months ago. Had the actuators adjusted, rattle persisted. Dealer agreed to replace both turbos, rattle persisted. Vehicle is back at the dealership for the same rattle...
