What have you gotten away with?

Just curious as to how much ppl have gotten away with regarding warranty. I have some friends that have just about full bolt ons w/ out meth or DP's(CAI, exhaust, FMIC,tune etc.) and they take it to get serviced regularly.

I have a great service advisor that told me I could get an exhaust, DCI, FMIC, CP w/ BOV with out a problem...Im trying to a little cooler with them before I order a tune or talk to them about DP's. I could get a JB4 but Id rather be upfront about everything since they are being pretty cool...

But what mods have you seen installed that BMW service has usually been cool about?

They obviously won't care if you take it in for service. When you have to take it in for warranty work like replacing turbos, then they will be more stringent.

A little bit down the first page, we start listing mods and saying what we've "gotten away with" etc. And a bit of talk in general about it.

Have a good relationship with you SA and dealership and you can get away with a lot. Hendrick BMW in Charlotte is great and I have never been questioned about any warranty work because of mods on my 135i or E46M3.

I've never had trouble with DP's, FMIC, intakes, and JB4. Hasn't been in there since I put the meth on, but my SA has been super cool about the mods. He even had the techs make sure everything was installed properly the first time I brought it in, since I bought it used. He said the only thing he can't get covered is when I clearly broke something because of my mod. But other things like when I got moisture in a headlight and it was clearly my fault, he just said "well, I obviously can't prove 100% that you did something wrong, so looks like BMW is paying for this one". In that case I would have had about a $2000 repair, and it was just "taken care of". My SA loves the 135's though, and we've talked about how he would have one if he didn't have 2 kids. I've never risked trying a new SA though. I always go straight to him and get things taken care of.

Also ask if the same tech always services your car. I always have the same tech work on my car every time. I bought him and my SA a bottle of Red Label each in appreciation after a couple years of working on my car. Before this they already knew me by name and my car by the exhaust sound (I guess not too many modded cars go to this dealership), but now they're always EXTRA happy to work on the car . No complaints about my mods. One time I got some older bitchy woman as my SA because my regular guy is out certain weekdays, and that was a nightmare. A good relationship really helps.
