misfires

ARE GONE!

Did plugs recently, was fine on map 1&4 on stage 2, but would misfire on map 1&4 in stage 3.

Did coilpacks today, think they were the ones originally in the car. Had a production date of 09 on them. All the replacements were mid 2010 or newer. Little annoyed two were 80-02 batch, others were 80-01 but I don't think that will matter much, and I know which cylinders the 80-02's are on if they cause problems.

Also found a small leak on my PWM meth system when using the supplied zip ties. Put a worm clamp on and it's sealing a million times better.

Did a ton of pulls, no CEL's, and car felt great. Idle might be a smidgen better put it's probably in my head.

Yay coilpacks!

Where did you buy your coil packs from? You could do a "parts warranty" on them! (in order to get two new-er coil packs!) Hint, hint!

Btw... has anyone troed those new RED coil packs some of the aftermarket places sell like Cobb and BavAuto. ???

There are a few listed on eBay. Just under $1,200 for the set.

!#@%*!&#%)(*!%&

Thought it was fixed, turned out it's just moved. Or uncovered another problem.

4th gear -> 60 KPH I go WOT, car builds power beautifully, hits 3500 RPM, hesitates, misfire. Wait for ECU to reset, rinse and repeat, same thing.

Misfire on multiple cylinders. Seems two and three are popular but it is somewhat random.

I've done plugs and coils, Run a bottle of BMW fuel system cleaner through the car, and given the engine a stern lecture.

Car is FINE on stage 2 vishnu maps. Is having a dinan stage 2 flash on top of the procede causing too much timing advance or something silly?

Car has had the HPFP done at some point. not sure about injectors.

Could carbon buildup have anything to do with these symptoms?

I am right now with a similar problem. I changed sparks pulgs and coils and error stayed in cyl 6. I swapped that injector with the #1 inj and the misfire gone. I think is going to come again but I feel less power (maybe in my head) but if it come again I will change injectors and then the hpfp.

Maybe is your same problem...

If I have to buy the hpfp, I dont know if buy the OEM or an aftermarket one. Dont even know if exists an aftermarket one...

Subscribed for updates... Going through similar problems here, replacing spark plugs today. Looking into injectors, coil packs, and if necessary the HPFP as well.

BEFORE you start spending more money... where did you buy your spark plugs from? I have seen two threads on the e90 forum that ppl said their aftermarket Bosch plugs caused misfires. Only when they bought new BMW-Bosch plugs did the missfires go away. Do your plugs say BMW-Bosch on the ceramic insulator? Only BMW ones will.

Also... did you check the plug gaps? Just because a part is new doesn't mean it is a good part.

What kinds of codes are you getting? Maybe that will help you track things down.

Yeah they were all OE BMW-Bosch plugs.

P0703 and a fuel mixture code. I'm doing injectors as bank 0 is going lean.

Also I'm not sure if the injectors have ever been done so might as well.

I emailed Vishnu a couple times on this and he doesn't think so. Just means the procede is going to try and do less advance as the DME will already be calling for more agressive timing.

Doubt we'll ever see an aftermarket HPFP. Did you recode your injectors when you moved them? I haven't gotten any fuel rail codes and my HPFP was done under warranty.

It seems my coils were the ones that came with the car. All were made in early 2009. I've replaced them with batches from late 2010/mid 2011. In my head the engine idled a lot nicer afterwards. I wouldn't do HPFP unless you were seeing HPFP codes.

I'm only getting misfires on one cylinder (3) so I'm thinking since I've already done plugs and coils, next step is the injectors. I decided to say screw it and just bought 6 new injectors. I'm getting really sick of taking my cowling off.
