Polarized sunglasses and HUD
Anyone having difficulty with your polarized shades seeing the HUD?
Nav screen looks fine but can barely see the HUD?

Went through this last year with the 550i. I bought a second non polarized pair just for the car. Serengeti Drivers with RX lenses. Perfect for driving and for HUD.

Polarized Sunglasses have never worked with the HUD. Not even the E60 HUD's. I've been wearing Non-Polarized sunglasses for years because of it.

Gents,
Given the way the future displays, HUDs, and even windscreens are being developed, expect more of this. Polarization fields are not going to work with embedded windshields and projected displays. For what its worth, this is an issue with all of of modern aircraft and huds as well... which really sucks because polarized lenses are good for spotting aircraft at range or against a terrain backdrop... unfortunately they arent compatible with our HUDs or winndscreens either. Most high end glasses manufacturers offer replacement non-polarized lenses... I use oakleys and swap out lenses as required.

In the M5 I noticed that I can see the HUD with my polarized lenses if I tilt my head 45 degrees. There is something there.

I was looking at older posts on this issue and they were talking about using a pice of tint film(can't remember if it was ceramic or not) on the area and then they could see it with polarized lenses. It may help with scattering the refracted light better. I wear the cheapo polarized lens already so not much of an issue for me but I plan on getting some non-pol for the car and do some experimenting with the HUD.

The guy at the Welt said the reason you can tilt the HUD horizontally (make it crooked left or right) was to allow polarized glasses to see the HUD. I played with it and you can tilt it a lot. Looks odd but may work. Anyone with the car try that?

That's annoying. Most quality sun glasses that we would buy are polarized

The general problem with direction of polarization grid of your glasses. If you hold you glasses and rotate by 90 degrees, you will start seeing HUD even clearer than without glasses. As for a now remedy is buying glasses with ideally circle shaped lenses and then rotate them by 90 degrees. The problem's solved.
We only need send a message to glasses manufactures to apply polarization grid in different direction. Perhaps such glasses already exist, in this case you can easy pick them in a store. Take your bad glasses with you, and then try to look through both glasses (new you going to buy and your old). if you can't see anything, then they are good glasses and buy them. if you still can see, then you can try to rotate any by 90 degrees, and if it becomes darkie than they new glasses are bad and do not buy them.

Tilt your head 90 degrees to either the left or right and voila, perfect sight of the HUD. You'll get used to driving like that. ...takes a while.
