windshield wiper issue

turned the wipers on last night in light rain and after about 30 secs of continuous swiping, they just stopped in the middle of the windshield, this was in position #1 (auto)

I get that the rain sensor may have been detecting water that whole time, but why did they quit in the middle of the windshield? when I changed the setting to something else (position #2 normal or #3 high) they wouldn't work?

trying to decipher the issue...is this a relay problem, wiper motor problem, rain sensor problem...anyone experience a similar issue? TIA

I had the same issue. Sometimes, turning off the car and starting it back up and letting it re-boot would fix it temporairily. Since mine was still under warranty, I took it to the dealer. Three times they replaced the wiper relay but would soon fail again. When it finally failed 45 minutes after leaving the dealer ,I was pissed enough I got hold of the service manager and they ended up replacing the wiper motor. I hope it is fixed!!! I don't often drive in the rain. Anyway, when the issue first came up, I did a search on this forum and found it is not all that rare. This is what I found regarding a DIY fix. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1115530 I hope this helps and good luck!
