M5 and Snow in Europe
Well, it's snowing in Europe and temps are getting colder... already -3 C today. I am curious how many of you are already driving in Snow ?
I am avoiding getting the car out there now, not because of the snow but in order to avoid the salt... they are pouring salt like mad on the highways and roads... Having said that how is the car handling in Snow ? I assume people would drive in full comfort mode to avoid any accidents. |

It seems that no many people are driving in snowy conditions, I will take the car for a spin over the weekend with heavy snow just to get a feel of what happens...
Don't want to drive daily on the highway now because there is a lot of retarded people driving on sub-zero temps with Summer tires... Everyday I see an accident on the Autobahn, it's just ridiculous... but of course for people is a matter of money, having a second set of tires is costly. Will share my experience and pics later |

I have been driving in snow for a week now - everything works good. No problems except some traction issues ofcourse. Was expecting less traction actually. Maybe the tyres are helping ( Pirelli Sottozero 255/40-19 ).
DSC works really fine stabilizing the car. Itīs light years behind my old car ( 2011 550ix ) when it comes to traction, but as I said works quite good anyway.

And I've seen the pictures from Sweden, you were driving deep snow pretty much...
I took myself the car over the weekend for some snow driving, it was -5C and snowing heavily... (for here) 10 cm or so in a few hours... No big issues car handles well, and as you've said DSC seems to manage the RWD. I did have a problem parking uphill, pretty steep hill, I had to later back out from the place and that gave me some wheel spins... nothing major, I was kind of expecting it ... so I parked with enough space to maneuver. Had fun doing many power slides all over Lux... but I wouldn't put the car in M mode... Efficient and Comfort does the trick... If I had to go Skiing up in the mountain, I think I would pass on bringing my M5... I would get the FWD Alfa for that instead. |

The fact that BMW invited journalists to drive the M5 prototype in snow, it should indicate that it's a good winter car I think...
