BMW Protection Program Worth It?
As the title states.... Is the BMW Tire & Wheel Protection Plan worth it? What did you pay for your M5?

It has been for me. I got two run flats replaced on the last one and one Michelen Super Sport already on the new one. One of the run flats tore to bits, another got a screw in it and the Michelin picked up a nail. The cost for replacing and labor on the run flats would have been about $550 each so the thing paid for itself. The Michelin would have been but $400 or so but it cost me a $50 deductible. I only had the car for a month when it picked up the nail and they told me the tire couldn't be repaired.
So for me, yes. |

I bought mine, and it's very well worth it. Might be my luck, but I've gotten 4 or 5 tires replaced and it's barely been 8 months, paid itself off in no time. (got mine for around ~$2000)

I should have stated that it was $1100 on the 2010 535i and on the M5. Of course on the M5 there is a $50 deductible and the tires are not run flats so are not as expensive. I figure that is why the price is the same as it was 3 years ago on the more expensive tires.
I haven't broken a wheel yet but those are also covered if that happens. |

I think my tire ins was 1800 over 3 years. That's for unlimited tires if needed. Its my understanding that starting this month, its limited in how many tire changes you get.

Side note....depends on how long you keep your car. Quick flipper= not worth it. Insurance companies don't survive on paying claims. Short ownership period is low risk. Play the odds. Trust me-THEY have figured this out down to a science. Same way casinos aren't built on payouts ![]()

I am picking up my car next week(I think). Can I purchase the plan from another dealer or does it need to be at the time of purchase?

I think it's worth it unless you're going to swap tires with another brand .

wheel coverage also includes rim damage and repair, and on prior cars also covered winter rubber if installed at the dealer. 5 year coverage IMO seems well worth it, especially on new england roads with pothole craters in the spring.

I think my rim and tire coverage was about $1400.
Damn pot holes. First one took out a tire. Replacement through the program was 3 weeks. Second pot hole took out a rim and tire. I had to fight with dealer and insurance to cover the rim. Initially insurance said that they were not going to cover the rim (I like a good fight). So I found my policy and had to show the insurance company their own policy before they would cover my rim. Took about 5 weeks to sort that shit out. The fine print in my policy says that my plan has a maximum valuve of $6000. So I have another $3200 left. Needless to say I won't get the insurance again, not worth the 8 odd weeks my car was out of action. Had I paid out of pocket I could have got the rim and tires in a few days.
