New M5 in shop longer than it's been out of it

It's official. My brand new m5 will have been in the shop longer than out of it since I've owned it. I took delivery (out of state delivery and they claimed everything was working for them) and the nav wasn't working along with some other gremlins in the software. They tried resetting and updating to no avail. So now they are ordering a new CIC or head unit which is taking forever.

I owned 2 C63's before this and they were never in the shop other than for scheduled service.

I am not a happy elf.

I had horrible experience with my E550 coupe MB 2010 and was a brand new car... and owned it for a year a few month and was at the dealership for at least 2-3 months total!!
I almost lemoned it for them!!

On the other side I had 3 BMW and zero problems so far!!

I don't think they did all the proper pre-delivery inspection before they shipped it to me. I find it hard to believe it was working fine and then all of a sudden during shipping it stopped working.

I stopped by the dealer today to get something out of the car and it was just parked outside in the elements. With bird droppings on it. Lovely.

Very frustrating to finally purchase the car after months of research and waiting only to go through this. Too bad it's not like Best Buy where you can just take it back.

CIC unit is expensive, so dealers troubleshoot before replacing. Updating all the modules in the CIC can take a long time.

After your CIC is replaced you should be ok.

I know you said your car has been in the shop longer than your garage.. Did you take delivery and drive the car for 3 days and it's been in the shop for 4??

How long has the dealer had it? I would imagine it shouldn't take any longer than a week to trouble shoot and eventually order a new CIC from Germany - assuming its in stock and overnighted.

Therein lies the problem as the part is not in stock. 5-10 business days is what they are telling me. Dealer has had it for over a week, but it only took them a few days to realize they needed a new CIC. They've been kind of stringing me along saying it's going to arrive on the next shipment, and then the next and then so-on.

Now my dilemma is do I just have them re-assemble it with the bad CIC and at least drive it versus letting it sit outside waiting for the part. I don't like the idea of taking stuff in/out as that's how rattles start, but I also don't like my car sitting out for 2 weeks in the elements. It didn't look like they had to take that much apart to get to the part. We'll see.

I would inquire about getting a "solid date" for the part. It's either out of stock, in stock, not shipped, or shipped. If they can't tell you, then that's a problem.

Did they atleast provide you with a BMW loaner car while your M5 has been at shop?

I think the same way.. the less the dealer touches the better.. and if it's not a big issue, I don't bring the car in. The CIC was already removed. So another removal and install won't change the chances of a rattle appearing.

Get a "no BS" ETA and then you can make a decision on drive the car while waiting for part, or leave it at the dealer.

Hi. My 2025 M5 has been in the shop for 6 weeks. Maybe I will get it back by July 27th. I could cry. I am trying to get a new one but they are balking.

The high voltage battery failed is the most detailed description that I have gotten. There are no batteries because they have not yet been manufactured.
