Farewell M3
After much deliberation, and soul searching, I have finally taken the plunge. Was working with the Porsche dealer on the GT3, but I guess they were struggling to match my asking price for my M3. The lull has allowed me to dig deeper into my heart and I have decided to stay true to my real love. That's not to say I don't fancy the new GT3. It's just that the cancellation of the GT3 at Sepang a few weeks back, which was probably due to the global stop-drive action by Porsche, has sort of also dampen my enthusiasm for the car. Perhaps Porsche bit off more than they can chew with the new GT3. Maybe a .2 car in a few years time...
So i have gone all mad and went ahead today and ordered the new 458 Speciale for delivery end of the year. Anyone knows somebody who wants to buy my left kidney The Speciale is just too tempting and it rights all the wrong with the 458 styling that has always plagued me. This is the last car in my bucket list that I have to own. After that, I think I can drive Camrys and Accords for the rest of my natural life. Ideally, I would have liked to own the GT3 as well, but the prohibitive price of cars here means the Speciale is all that I can afford at this moment. The Speciale would make a nice companion to my M5 If the Ferrari dealer couldn't meet my price expectations, I would prob have went across and look at the new Mac 650S. I was hoping it won't come to that, and I am glad it din. Now the long wait begins...pics of the car as configured in their configurator...

This is a must experience car IMO and the noise...
I wouldn't be missing the 991 GT3 if a 458 Speciale was on the way (good call Clar) Last edited by Dionysus; 03-01-2014 at 04:26 AM.. |

The Speciale is the much more emotional car to me. The 991 GT3 is prob a little more nimble due to the smaller foot print and that awesome rear wheel steer. Don't underestimate that car!

Would you really sell your kidney for this car? I know, one kidney is enough to live normally, but 2 is better than one, no?

Very nice. My favorite Ferrari is the F12berlinetta:
Some day, perhaps.

Speaking of F12, after I dropped off my M3 at the Ferrari dealership, the sales guy gave me a lift back in a F12. I was shocked by the car and not in a good way. The car sounded tame. It had that nice F1 pitch to it, but way too tame and not supercar loud. I understand it's again, due to sound insulation in the cabin. I dare say my M3 with perf exhaust sounded more entertaining than it. I was shocked by that discovery and it has disturbed me since. Maybe the sales guy din activate the flap open mode on the exhaust. It was stupid fast though. The acceleration kept piling on and on without relenting.

Indeed, more power is not essential beyond a certain point. In my case, I gave no thought on which car would offer me the most power. The Mac sales guy kept pushing me the 650S and I have no doubt that the 12C (never mind the 650S) might still be quicker in the straights than the Speciale. Car manufacturers have gone mad with power and efficiency and forgetting the real joy of driving. The problem with FI high performance cars is that they feel boring unless u push it up to crazy speeds. NA cars sound more exciting and dramatic even at lower speeds mostly due to the sound and high revving nature. That is why I want to keep my sportscar NA.
